New Website

For the last few months my mornings have been spent rebuilding my website and that of Karen's site as well. My previous website was created using Freeway Pro, but the company announced that they had closed up shop and were no longer supporting their software. They also could not confirm if the program would be compatible with the newest Mac operating system, or future OS to come, so I began my search for a new program. I spent a lot of time checking out the various web based options (this seems to be the future) and finally settled on Squarespace. The learning curve wasn't too steep but our sites are rather large (especially Karen's) so it has taken a bit of time. Yesterday I uploaded my new site and it seems to be working okay. Karen's site is still in progress but should be ready in a couple of weeks. If you'd like to visit my new site the address is still

Pool Bowl

Pool Bowl  |  16 x 16  |  Oil on panel

I've still been juggling a bunch of frying pans here lately, but I was finally able to complete this bowl of pool balls for Rehs Galleries in NYC. It was nice to actually have a request for this subject. It's one I've done quite a number of times, but never tire of. At least not yet. Now I've got to get going on a piece for Arcadia. I've got a few compositions to choose from but haven't made a decision. Hopefully I'll be back at the easel at work on what ever that will be  in the next day or so.

Teamwork: 1st Painting for 2017

Teamwork  |  12 x 36  |  Oil on panel

I've been working on a bunch of stuff since the holidays. Some of it art related with a lot of other non art stuff thrown in. Because of this it's taken me quite a while to complete this painting, but it's finally done. I'm calling it Teamwork and after it's varnished I'll be shipping up to Lauren Ellis at C. K. Contemporary in San Francisco.

Arcadia Contemporary at the L. A. Art Show

Steve Diamant, owner of Arcadia Contemporary Gallery, was kind enough to use one of my paintings in an article in the January issue of American Art Collector magazine to promote their participation in the L. A. Art Show.

Big Drill No. 3

Big Drill No. 3   |   24 x 36   |   oil on canvas

I've been involved with quite a few, non art related, jobs during the last six weeks, but Big Drill No. 3 is finally done. My task now is to get back into painting mode and start producing new work. What to do?

the Big Drill: In Progress - Day 2

the Big Drill  |  24 x 36  |   In Progress - Day 2

Next painting is on the easel. It's an image I've been "saving" for quite a while, and I felt it was finally time to use it. I've done a couple of paintings of this big drill already and I'm looking forward to a third.

Remington Rand No. 2: In Progress - Day Twelve

Remington Rand No. 2   |   18 x 24   |   Oil on panel

Work on the typewriter continues to progress. I finished the underpainting of the keys last night. Now I've got to do the linkages and the body. When that's done I start all over again.

Remington Rand No.2: In Progress - Day One

Remington Rand No.2   |   18 x 24   |   Oil on panel

Well, I thought I'd be going with the "fun" option in choosing my next subject but after consulting my brain trust the consensus was that I should go with "challenging". This one is going to take a bit of time, so there will probably be a number of in progress posts. There's not much to see here, but I figured I'd start with day one.

Moped: Complete

Moped   |   24 x 24   |   Oil on panel

I finished up the Moped up last night. Currently I'm looking at options for my next painting. Bouncing back and forth between two "favorites". One will be very challenging and the other very fun. I'll eventually do both, but at the moment I'm leaning towards fun.

Moped: In Progress - Day 12

Moped   |   24 x 24   |   Oil on panel

Day twelve, I've got the underpainting done and put a second pass on the background. Now for the best part, the refining layers. As usual, this will be the final post until the entire painting is complete.

Moped: In Progress - Day 7

Moped   |   24 x 24   |   Oil on panel

Moving along. One week in. Kind of dark and muddy at this point. Successive layers will hopefully bring out the colors, chrome and tail lights.

Crystal Cherries

Crystal Cherries   |   12 x 12   |   oil on panel

This will be my final painting for our two person show at Tree's Place Gallery this July. I've got two more very similar compositions which could, if combined with this one, possibly go together as a triptych. Or not . . .

Now I've got to get going on a corporate commission. The client finally approved the composition and my panel should arrive tomorrow. This will probably keep me busy for the next few weeks.
