Perc | 24 x 24 | Oil on panel |
Perc is finally done! I was really making a career of this one painting. In the end I had to just force myself to stop. When it's dry and varnished it'll be shipped off to C. K. Contemporary in San Francisco. Got a new one on the easel today. A lager one. Based upon how I feel that one is going, I may post a series of "in progress" images.
Fantastic James. Your compositions are as elegant as the objects themselves. This might be a silly question, but do you consciously place a different-colored object next to reflective objects to get that particular color, or do you just place them off in the distance knowing they'll be "picked up" in the reflections? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Steve. When I photograph highly reflective subject matter I try and clear away most of clutter in the room, but I'll leave a few items to add color, and some visual interest to the reflections. I also usually place the subject near a window so as to pick up the window, curtains and vegetation outside. The window also provides those blasted out highlights that enhance the shinyness quality I'm looking for.
ReplyDeleteThanks. These are works of a true master. I look at the composition of that linen crease running through the middle of the spoon and on up, the handles of the perc and cup on opposite sides for balance. The orange accents to add overall warmth. Wow. And the engraving on that perc - fuggetaboutit!! I'll bet they don't even get done straightening this one on the gallery wall before it's sold. Congrats on another great image (tho Community Coffee is still arguably my fave still life!). Sorry for "drooling." I'm obviously a huge fan!
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve. Community Coffee is my favorite too.
